Ways to Give

The University of Illinois Foundation provides a variety of mechanisms for you to ensure the continued success and traditions of excellence that are the hallmarks of our department.

CASH GIFTS are the easiest and most frequent way that our alumni support our programs and facilities. You may make a gift on-line to our "Excellence in Physics" fund or send a check directly to the Foundation at the following address:

University of Illinois Foundation
Attention: Cash Receipts
P.O. Box 3429
Champaign, IL 61826-3429

Be sure to include the name of the specific fund you wish to support. For your convenience, we've provided a downloadable PDF form that you can print to include with your check.

GIFTS of SECURITIES, such as equities, bonds, mutual funds, and other financial instruments, may be donated to the Foundation, which may either manage or liquidate the assets in order to achieve your goals. A popular benefit of such a gift beyond the charitable income tax deduction that accrues is the avoidance, in most cases, of capital gains tax on the appreciated value of the securities.

GIFTS of PROPERTY, such as real estate, may be given with the same benefits as the gift of securities—no capital gains tax, plus deductibility at fair market value.

BEQUEST in a WILL or LIVING TRUST is the most common form of planned giving, which will benefit the department at some future date. The bequest may be given as a percentage of the total estate or trust, as the residual of the estate, or for a specific dollar amount. Specialists at the Foundation will work with you to structure a bequest that meets your goals.

LIFE INCOME GIFTS are charitable remainder trusts that provide a life income to the donor or designated beneficiaries while simultaneously benefitting the work of Physics now. They can be funded through gifts of stock, cash, or other assets during a donor's lifetime or through a testamentary disposition.

If you have questions about giving opportunities to benefit the Department of Physics, or if you if you would like written information about the Foundation and current and deferred gifts, please contact Celia Elliott, Director, External Affairs and Special Projects.

We also welcome your gifts of time or service

If you can advise a student about career opportunities in your field, recommend the Department or the University of Illinois to prospective students, offer an internship at your company, or serve on our Physics Advisory or Physics Alumni Boards, we'd really like to hear from you.
