Want to know more about majoring in Physics at the University of Illinois?

Part I: Physics Van Demonstration starts at 10:15 a.m. with the Saturday Physics Honors Program lecture by UIUC Undergraduates.
The Physics Van travels to schools across the area, showing kids of all ages that science is bot fascinating and fun. Van shows are performed by UIUC students and have brought smiles to over 60,000 people in the last 12 years! You will see the following demonstrations: fun with liquid nitrogen, the rocket cart, Van de Graaf generator, smoke rings from a vortex generator and many more. Don't forget, no Physics Van show is complete without blowing stuff up!

Part II: Tour of Research Labs (11:00 and 11:30 a.m.)
You can choose to visit two of five Physics Research Labs. A detailed description of each tour is availaible on the Saturday Physics Honors Program web site.

  • Using Lasers to study Matter at Extreme Termperatures, Fields and Pressures
  • Buiding Black Holes and Neutron Stars: Supercomputer Cinema
  • The Physics of Music & Musical Instruments
  • Unison Optics and Cryogentic to Study Crystals
  • Quantum Information Laboratory
  • Part III: Information Session for Prospective Students (registration required.)
    What type of careers are available to physics majors? Learn more about the UIUC Physics curriculum and the required courses for physics majors.

    The registration deadline is November 4, 2005.
    If you miss the registration deadline,
    you may still attend Physics Day, we can't guarantee lunch for you.
